For those who are not familiar with this beautiful singer (she has been voted *on numerous occasions* as one of the most beautiful singers by fans all around the world), she is currently contracted with Thuy Nga Productions since 2002. After making an appearance as a model in one of the videos, she caught the eye of the producer and was asked to audition for the upcoming videos. Her first videotaping as a singer for Thuy Nga was filmed in Paris, France in a group song along with a few other beautiful ladies of Paris by Night.

Loan’s first solo performance was filmed at Knott’s Berry Farm in a song entitled “Men Say Tinh Ai”. Introduced to this “whirlwind world” of a singing career, often taking her all across the United States almost every weekend, and overseas to the most beautiful countries, her life suddenly got hectic and busy (the good kind! ) filled with booking for shows, videotapings, photo shoots, and studio time. Up to date, Loan is one of the most requested singers for live shows and is still one of the hottest rising singers.

Loan and I both decided to do an interview where all the questions were not the same old boring ones that are always asked in interviews (except for a couple of bio ones). All of the answers are written by Loan, herself, and no words have been changed.

Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen Biography

Biography

Kỳ Duyên was born in Saigon, South Vietnam, and was nine years old during the Fall of Saigon when communist North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam. Her family was anti-communist and worried that they would be persecuted by the North Vietnamese government if it succeeded in defeating South Vietnam. Her father is a former prime minister, vice president, and general, Nguyen Cao Ky.

Kỳ Duyên currently works as a Master of Ceremonies for Thuy Nga’s Paris By Night videos and lives in Orange County, California. She is married to Trinh Hoi, a refugee lawyer and concert promoter.

Education

Her father had made arrangements for their political asylum in the United States. She grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, and then the family moved to Huntington Beach, California where she graduated from Marina High School.

She attended California State Polytechnic University and then graduated from Western State University College of Law with high honors. At present, she is currently not eligible to practice law.

Music Career

Kỳ Duyên first learned to play the piano at the age of 5-8 years old. At the age of 15-18 she studied music and music theory. She also has two years of voice training.

While growing up, Kỳ Duyên had a stint in many professions. In her late teens, she had her own photo studio dedicated to photographing fashion layouts. Through her connections with many of the models, she was often asked to introduce them on various fashion shows in Southern California. In many ways, this was her introduction to the world of show business and being the Master of Ceremonies (MC). Her debut as an MC was at Long Beach’s Hoa Hau Ao Dai show. In 1984, she first recorded with Tung Giang Studio.

In 1985, she made her first public appearance as a singer in Seattle, Washington, but her first televised performance was in 1993 at the Hollywood Night Video.

As suggested by her name, Kỳ Duyên’s charm, her command of the one-liners, and her stage presence was noticed by many people in the Vietnamese entertainment industry. Kỳ Duyên became famous through her many appearances in the Thuy Nga Paris videos. She now regularly performs in Las Vegas, California and Paris, France.

Kỳ Duyên has demonstrated that she is multi-talented, and she has recently returned to singing. She claims that there are others members of her family with musical talent, but she is the only one who chose to pursue a career in show business.

She revealed that as a singer she is inspired by music that moves the heart. As a listener, she enjoys jazz and Vietnamese as well as foreign music. When asked if there was a particular song she was most proud of, Kỳ Duyên responded that “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong is one of her many favorites because of its positive inspiration.

In her spare time, Kỳ Duyên likes to dance, acting, and interior decorating. She also enjoys reading, playing tennis, playing mahjong, and hanging out with friends. Her favorite foods are any kind of “mắm” and “cafe sữa đá”. Kỳ Duyên likes to perform in Las Vegas the most, since it’s close to home, and she can take her family for a mini-vacation to have fun in the casinos while she works.

Her future projects include her first solo CD, taping a video for Thuy Nga, and appearing in concerts almost every weekend in many major cities of the US. She also plans to expand and be successful in her law practice.

Luong Tung Quang Biography

Born in Vietnam, Luong Tung Quang is the last child in a family consisting of 4 children - all boys! He loves singing ever since childhood but only began his singing career after he migrated to Perth, Australia, with his family. His brother, Cong Tri, sponsored his family. As a side note, Luong Tung Quang’s two other brothers, Cong Tri and Cong Tin, were singers in Vietnam before 1975 (the year Vietnam lost its freedom).

The first band LTQ ever collaborated with at Australia was the band named “Hy Vong” (HOPE). This band had many collaborations with Vietnamese singers in the United States. And then, in 1995, LTQ moved to Sydney, where he continued to participate in various Vietnamese cultural activities.

In 1998, Via the introduction by Quang Kiet and Quang Minh - Hong Dao, LTQ joined Van Son entertainment as a professional singer in the United States. In Van Son, LTQ produced 4 albums, “Cry”, “Neu Da Yeu”, “Cuoc Tinh Danh Mat”, and Ngay Vui Da Den”.

LTQ joined Thuy Nga productions in 2000 through the recommendation by Tung Chau and Chau Ngoc. Ever since, his singing has improved tremendously and his popularity soared. Everywhere he went, hoards of young girls followed.

Beside singing, LTQ also participated in many charities to help the needy. In particular, he’s most memorable about Terry Vo, a young boy whose arms and a leg were crushed after his garage fell on him. LTQ held a concert at Perth to raise money for Terry to seek treatment. The boy’s arms were saved but he lost the leg.

When he toured all over the world, LTQ has many memorable encounters with fans. Apparently because of his spikey hair, many people think they look like him. He remembers a few times young girls would bring their boyfriends or relatives over to him and pointed to him, “Look, my boyfriend/brother looks like you!”

And so those are the treasured memories of his life as a performer. Luong Tung Quang hopes that no matter the ups or downs of life, he can still perform for his fans and share with them his stories in the years to come.

Trish Thuy Trang Profile

Trish Thuy TrangEver since Trish’s debut in Asia Entertainment videos, the face of Vietnamese pop has never been quite the same. Not only has Trish made an incredible impact at Asia, but she has almost single-handedly helped to define a new generation of Vietnamese pop music. With her fresh-faced looks, ever-evolving unique sense of style, and soothing distinctive voice, Trish has reached fans far and wide, from Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Korea to England, Germany, Australia and of course the United States. Hailed for her amazing songwriting talent and ability to write catchy pop songs, Trish has brought true talent, style and originality to the Vietnamese music scene.

Trish grew up listening to American music and loved to sing along with artists such as Madonna, Mariah Carey and Sheryl Crow. As a child, Trish was constantly singing out loud and had a deep knack and love for music, so her parents encouraged this by enrolling her in piano lessons. Soon she was pursuing and excelling at many artistic endeavors, such as her school choir, drawing, painting, poetry and sewing, all of which have helped her to develop and become the talent that she is today.

Trish’s career started rather simply and organically. Her love for music and singing naturally led to constant karaoke-ing at home. After a close friend had heard her sing, she encouraged Trish to send a demo to Asia Entertainment. Since she had promised her friend, Trish went ahead and recorded herself singing karaoke on her home system and sent it to Asia. Producers at Asia Entertainment were immediately impressed and quickly called her in for an audition. They were amazed at her ability to sing English and Vietnamese with such ease and at her innate musical talent.

Trish continues to perform, write songs, and appear on Asia Entertainment Videos. There is no doubt that her incredible talent, beauty, unique sound and voice will continue to capture our ears and our hearts for a long time to come.

Loan Chau Profile, Biography

Loan Chau is an emerging star and a new discovery  for musical director  Truc Ho at Asia Productions. Her real name is Ninh The Loan Chau, however she combined her parents’ first names (Cat, from her father and Loan, from her mother) to come up with the stage name Ninh Cat Loan Chau.

Loan Chau was born on September 15, 1973 in Saigon, Vietnam. She attended Doan Thi Diem elementary school and Marie Curie high school. Loan Chau came to the United States in 1991, and reunited with her family in Westminster California. Since leaving Vietnam, she misses her friends and school the most. She added, she also misses her first love(???).

Loan Chau is the only musically inclined person in her family. As she recalled, her first experience in front of an audience was around the age of six where she sang in front of her classmates. At the age of 8, Loan Chau began writing children songs to perform for her friends. Due to this unusual gift, the teachers in her school took notice and allowed her to be part of a group of children in the entertainment committee. Her other musical activities involved being a part of her church’s choir since a very early age. Loan Chau fondly talks about this period as one of the most memorable part of her childhood.  In 1995, four years after arriving in California, Loan Chau won top honors at a karaoke contest at Ritz night club in Orange County. In 1996, after a meeting with  Truc Ho, Loan Chau signed an exclusive contract with the Asia and became one of the organization’s many bright young stars. In April 1997, Loan Chau sang in her first gig in Virginia where she was paid for the first time for her singing.

Loan Chau looks to such stars as Tony Braxton, Whitney Houston, Khanh Ha, and Thai Hien for inspiration. She also looks to her audience as well as her love for music as key sources of inspiration. Loan Chau often chooses love ballads to perform while she favors listening to pop music.

To date, Loan Chau is most proud of her performance of the song “Ben Em La Bien Rong”, because it was chosen to be taped for the video Asia 16. She also likes “Tango Tinh” in her new CD. Her most memorable performance to date was in her very first show in Kitchener, Canada where she fell in love with the audiences. She said, “they (the audience) were so kind and supportive, they made me feel so welcomed and cherished.” She also likes Montreal Canada, where she thinks the city is very romantic.

Besides singing, Loan Chau also plays the piano and “DDa`n Tranh”. She was involved in drama when she was younger, but claimed to no longer have the time nor the opportunity. However, Loan Chau added that she likes all things that relate to the arts.

Loan Chau stays in touch with her fans via Asia email, letters, and tries to stay after the shows and talk to her fans. She can be reached by conventional mail or by E-mail  at Asia, or to her personal address at loanchau@hotmail.com.

Between working full time in a MIS department, training for her job, singing practices and going to shows, Loan Chau also surfs the net and regularly browses the pages of Vietscape. She also tries to make time for movies, shopping, sleeping in, reading books, and picnics. Loan Chau loves to “jet ski” and blames it on her dare devil’s side. However, she has less free time now than ever to do the things that she likes.

Loan Chau other favorite past time is eating. Some of her favorite dishes are Bun Bo Hue, banh bot loc, goi cuon, bi cuon and all authentic Vietnamese dishes.

One of her goals is to be able to sing a wide range of songs to appeal to all ages. She also likes to be famous and successful and to have her own business and earn an MBA. However, Loan Chau added that she is a staunch believer in fate and destiny. For all of her ambitions, Loan claims that her family comes first before anything else.

When it comes to defining the traits of an ideal partner, Loan Chau listed:  a good listener, very ambitious, look doesn’t matter, someone with depth, a good communicator and a friend, someone who does not take love for granted and one who will sacrifice for love. A tall task but definitely achievable for many talented readers of this page.

The colors Loan Chau likes best are White, Black, Red and Aquamarine. Her favorite pets are: Cats, Dogs, Rabbits. She loves the Fall season the best, because it’s cool and romantic. She lists Noel and Tet as her most favorite holidays. She also tries to watch Harrison Ford and Sandra Bullock as they are her two favorite movie stars.

In the next 6  months, Loan Chau will be busy with recording, Ben Em La Bien Rong CD, taping 4 videos with Asia and trying not to tour more than 2 or 3 weekends out of a month, as she wants to spend more time with her family.

Khanh Ly Profile

Khanh Ly first public appearance occurred in 1959, in a radio talent search for children sponsored by Saigon Radio. The show was broadcasted throughout Southern Vietnam. Khanh Ly was only 14 years old at the time. During this contest she won second place.

In 1962, at the age of 17, Khanh Ly began her professional music career. She performed at many clubs in the Southern Vietnamese Highlands. Most notable of which was Da Lat, South Vietnam’s premiere locale for lovers and vacationers.

In 1964, Composer Trinh Cong Son requested for Khanh Ly to return to Saigon and perform. At the time, Khanh Ly refused this offer from this young promising composer.

In 1967, by chance but according to many it was serendipity, they met again, thus began a famous and fruitful collaborative effort between these two stellar figures in the Vietnamese music industry. Khanh Ly began performing Trinh Cong Son Music. According to Khanh Ly’s recollection, it all began at Quan Van club in Saigon. After a very short period of time, Khanh Ly and Trinh Cong Son gained phenomenal fame across the entire country.

Continuing in their collaboration, Khanh Ly and Trinh Cong Son started to perform at numerous colleges and universities. These performances led to more daring ventures. Khanh Ly became the first Vietnamese woman to headline her own shows. These shows usually lasted the minimum of four hours and within those hours she would perform 40-45 songs entertaining the people of Vietnam.

The Vietnam war escalated in 1970 to heights unseen previously. During this period, Trinh Cong Son composed a group of songs dedicated to the hope for peace and tranquillity. At the same time, Khanh Ly began to expand and share her talents with the troops fighting for peace and freedom. She performed in various front lines for the South Vietnamese troops.

In addition, Khanh Ly contributed her talents to various religions in order to raise funds for numerous causes. From 1967-1975, Khanh Ly has performed for students, soldiers, and religious orders without ever charging any fee. This fact shows the humanitarian side of Khanh Ly that many fans never get to see.

In 1969 the Vietnamese Government sponsored Khanh Ly to travel and perform in Europe. She became the first Vietnamese entertainer to perform on foreign lands. Her performances were primarily for Vietnamese exchange students and the Vietnamese communities in Europe. In 1970, Khanh Ly took her talents to the United States and Canada.

In 1970, Nippon Columbia invited Khanh Ly to Japan in order to attend the Osaka Fair and also to record the songs Diem Xua and Ca Dao Me in both Japanese and Vietnamese. Trinh Cong Son specifically requested Nippon Columbia to choose Khanh Ly as the performer for this recording.

In 1972, Khanh Ly ventured out and opened her own night club named Phong Tra Khanh Ly. This club was located at 1214 Tu Do, Saigon, Vietnam. In 1975, Khanh Ly and her family departed Vietnam by boat, she presently resides in Cerritos, California USA.

In 1979, Columbia Nippon once again contacted Khanh Ly. She soon traveled to Japan and recorded an album consisting of music by Trinh Cong Son. In 1982, Bunka Honso Radio invited Khanh Ly to attend the Asia Music Festival that featured artists from numerous Asian countries.

In 1985 Khanh Ly formed Khanh Ly Productions managed by her spouse Mr Nguyen Hoang Doan. Khanh Ly Productions currently has:

30 Music Titles
4 Music Video Features
A Motion Picture - The Life of Khanh Ly (currently in production)
In 1987, Khanh Ly returned to Japan to record the soundtrack for the Motion picture The Boat People. In1988, Khanh Ly was invited to the Vatican for a special ceremony to honor 117 Vietnamese priests who died for the cause of Catholicism. During this event, Khanh Ly was personally introduced to Pope John Paul II.

In 1992, Khanh Ly was invited to the World Youth Festival held in Denver, Colorado USA. She performed there for the masses. This was her second meeting with Pope John Paul II. This was a great honor for Khanh Ly since she is a very religious person.

Khanh Ly is truly the people’s star. Throughout her illustrious career, she has been constantly on the move, recording music, and performing for people all over the world. Her humanitarian effort has not gone unnoticed by her peers as many generations of young performers have looked to Khanh Ly as an example of a fine Vietnamese woman and a bright shining star in the Vietnamese music industry.
